You Can Build a Future for Underserved Young Women

Meet our incoming student Kayden (below). She loves math and art, has a passion for education, but needs a place she can be her unique self. Sisu Academy provides her a safe and stable place to learn, grow, and explore.

We have 12 students already accepted for this fall and are interviewing more students every day. Each girl's story is impactful. Many with parents that are in prison or not in the picture, these young women are excited for the opportunity to take back their lives. We are excited to watch them become leaders.

This only happens with your support.

Why Donate to Sisu

My name is Jabez LeBret and this is me at about 3 years old. At this point no one knew what life held in store for me, but it wasn't going to be easy. By 16, through no choice of my own, I found myself homeless. I had not been engaged in school for a while and was headed toward disaster. Sure enough I didn't graduate from high school. And so my first real lesson was that life happens.

We are going to do something about it starting today, and so are you. We are opening our next year so the time is now.

Just like me, most of us have experienced struggles in life. That is why we started Sisu. Not just because we want to, because we have to.

We are building a tuition-free all-girls boarding high school for students that are experiencing life struggles preventing them from learning in a traditional school environment. In fact, we don't want to be traditional. We want to be exceptional.

THE BONUS - Your donation has a compounding impact. Our school model includes an embedded program where students are paired with business community members to solve real business problems. Some of the solutions are going to kick into an on-campus accelerator with seed funding where we will take those ideas to market.

This means your dollar today will support creating a system that takes ZERO tax dollars, no vouchers, is tuition-free and ultimately pays for itself.

As the Chief of Schools I want to personally thank you in advance for your help.

Jabez LeBret

What is Sisu Academy

Underserved and Disengaged young women often lack the resources and support to become tomorrow’s leaders in our country. The skills gap is widening due to a system crippled by lack of funding, rendering truly inspiring solutions cost prohibitive. These students need a place to learn, to fail, grow, build empathy and cultivate the values of sisu. We will expand beyond the prevailing education models and create something new. More, we will expose those in need to ways of thinking, learning and being opening up new road before them.

Sisu Academy is the first all-girls tuition-free, boarding high school, with an embedded incubator fueled by entrepreneurs and seed capital creating an immersive learning environment that funds all operational costs. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit for public good serving students in San Diego County.
Sisu is a four-grade high school that will enroll and house a total of 350 young women from the local community in Southern California. Providing an environment with wrap-around support services for those in need, including healthy food, farming, project-based learning, skills training, STEAM education and counseling. All of these supports will be viewed through an entrepreneurial lens to address social and business-related challenges impacting both the students and the community at large. We will teach students to embrace failure as a catalyst for growth and future success. These efforts will also provide the revenue-creating structures allowing Sisu to sustain its model.
Enrollment at Sisu will be at no cost to the students. Program fit and a student’s need will be what matters. We will take no funding from state, local or federal governments so as to continue to support public education. Starting with a freshman class of 80 students, each year we will add more students, reaching full capacity in four years.

All of this will help build work ethic, provide an incredible education, create college ready or work ready graduates and inspire the future leaders of our communities. Each dollar helps a student who may otherwise never get an opportunity like this to take the leap into a future of curious learning and lifelong friendships.

Thank you.
